Do I have to install a new SSL during renewal?

Many customers ask us when they renew an SSL Certificate if they must install a new one. Unfortunately the answer is yes. Unlike domains when you renew an SSL certificate it does not automatically extend the expiry date of the SSL you already have installed.

This is because the expiry date is hard coded in to all SSL certificates. Doing this provides some redundant security that ensures if there becomes a problem with the certificate it will still expire eventually.
