Paying with PAYG or Points

Learn how PAYG and Points work, including discounts, balances, transfers, refunds and inactive account charges.

Servertastic gives customers two ways to pay for eligible products and services: PAYG or Points.

Both options are available from the same Servertastic account. You can use your account to purchase products for your own use, for resale, or for both.

You do not need a special account type to purchase Points or to purchase eligible products for resale.

You do not have to choose one payment method permanently.

You can make one purchase using PAYG and use Points for another purchase from the same account.

How PAYG works

PAYG means you pay the standard price for a product when you purchase it.

To use PAYG, add a payment method to your account, such as a credit card or PayPal. That payment method is charged when you make the purchase.

There is no requirement to purchase or maintain a Points balance.

For example, if a product costs US$100, a PAYG purchase costs US$100.

PAYG can be useful if you purchase products only occasionally, do not want to deposit money into your account in advance, or simply prefer to pay for each product as you need it.

How Points work

Points are purchased in advance and held as a balance in your Servertastic account.

You can purchase Points in USD, GBP or EUR.

Before any Points purchase discount is applied, the standard value of one Point is:

CurrencyValue of 1 Point
USD$1.00
GBP£0.80
EUR€0.90

The number of Points required for a product is based on its standard USD value:

US$1 of product value = 1 Point

For example:

Standard product pricePoints required
$2525 Points
$100100 Points
$500500 Points
$1,0001,000 Points

The discount is provided when you purchase Points rather than by changing the number of Points required for the product.

When you purchase Points, the number of Points purchased is credited to your account.

For example, purchasing 1,000 Points credits 1,000 Points to your balance even though the discounted purchase price is US$950.

Points purchase pricing

The discount tiers below are shown using USD pricing. Equivalent Point purchases are also available in GBP and EUR.

Points purchasedDiscountCustomer paysEffective cost per Point
1002%$98.00$0.98
1,0005%$950.00$0.95
2,5007%$2,325.00$0.93
5,00010%$4,500.00$0.90
7,50015%$6,375.00$0.85

The more Points you purchase at once, the greater the discount, up to a maximum of 15%.

Example

A product with a standard price of US$100 requires 100 Points.

If you purchase Points at the maximum 15% discount, the effective cost of the 100 Points used for that product is US$85.

The product still requires 100 Points. Your saving comes from the discounted price you paid when purchasing the Points.

Using Points for your own purchases or for resale

Points are available to all Servertastic customers.

You can purchase Points and use the discount entirely for products and services used by your own organisation.

You can also use the same account to purchase eligible products and services for resale.

This means the same Servertastic account can be used for:

  • your own purchases;
  • purchases for resale;
  • occasional PAYG purchases;
  • regular purchases using discounted Points; or
  • a mixture of PAYG and Points purchases over time.

Purchasing Points does not require you to resell Servertastic products, and purchasing products for resale does not require you to use Points.

What if I do not have enough Points?

You cannot part-pay for an individual purchase using a combination of Points and PAYG.

If your Points balance is too low to complete a purchase, you have two options:

  1. Purchase additional Points so your balance is sufficient to complete the transaction.
  2. Purchase the entire product using PAYG instead.

For example, if a product requires 100 Points and your account contains 80 Points, you cannot use the 80 Points and pay the remaining US$20 separately.

You can either purchase enough additional Points to cover the full 100 Point purchase, or purchase the product entirely using PAYG.

Points expiry, inactive accounts and transfers

Points do not expire.

Points remain in your account until they are used, transferred or affected by the inactive account charge described below.

Inactive account charge

If an account containing Points is inactive for 400 days, an inactive account charge is applied.

The charge is:

400 Points, or the remaining Points balance if the balance is less than 400 Points.

For example:

Points balance after 400 days of inactivityInactive account chargeBalance after charge
1,000400600
500400100
2502500
20200
000

If an inactive account has a zero Points balance, no inactive account charge is applied.

Transferring Points

Points can be transferred between Servertastic organisations/accounts.

This can be useful if you manage more than one organisation and need to move an existing Points balance between them.

Refunds and Points

Purchased Points are non-refundable.

This means you cannot purchase Points and later ask Servertastic to convert an unused Points balance back into cash.

However, this is different from a product refund.

If you use Points to purchase a product and that product is eligible for a refund under its applicable refund policy, the refund will be returned to your account in Points.

For example, RapidSSL products have a 30-day money-back refund period. If you purchase an eligible RapidSSL product using Points and request an eligible refund, the Points used for that purchase will be credited back to your Points balance.

The refund follows the payment method used for the original purchase:

  • a purchase made using Points is refunded in Points;
  • a purchase made using PAYG follows the applicable PAYG refund process.

Points purchases themselves are non-refundable, but eligible product refunds can return Points to your account.

What can Points be used for?

Points can be used for eligible products and services available through your Servertastic account.

This includes products such as SSL/TLS certificates and, as Servertastic expands its services, Points are also intended to provide a simple way to pay for smaller or usage-based services.

These may include services such as:

  • certificate automation;
  • automated certificate installation;
  • Certificate Transparency monitoring;
  • domain and service monitoring;
  • vulnerability scanning;
  • DMARC management and monitoring;
  • ACME-related services; and
  • other security and automation services.

Not every service will necessarily require Points. Some functionality may be included with another product or provided at no additional charge.

Your account will show the applicable PAYG price or Points requirement before you complete an eligible purchase.

Which payment method should I use?

There is no separate retail or reseller payment model.

Both PAYG and Points are available from the same Servertastic account.

Use PAYG if you want to pay for products individually without depositing money into your account in advance.

Use Points if you expect to make regular purchases and want to benefit from discounted pricing.

You can use either payment method as your requirements change.
